Can the gate valve at the fan inlet be replaced by Sanitary Butterfly Valve?

The gate valve is used to cut off the smoke machine, and the butterfly valve is used to control the flue gas volume and regeneration pressure during normal production.

As mentioned above, the sealing of the butterfly valve is not as good as the gate valve. The inlet short section should be removed when the smoke machine is repaired.

When you open the high gate of the smoke machine at ordinary times, you can test that the pressure of the regenerator drops. It can be seen that the high disc is leaking. As long as the sealing effect is good, it will be fine. However, two valves are generally installed. The front one is used to cut off, and the back one is used to adjust the flow.
