How to choose between Sanitary Ball Valve and electric butterfly valve more reasonably and economically

With the continuous acceleration of industrialization, in order to adapt to the needs of the times, valve products on the market are also constantly updated. Nowadays, the voice of "environmental protection" and "safety" in the valve market is getting higher and higher. At present, the demand for electric valves is getting higher and higher, mainly because electric valves are more energy-saving and safer and more reliable. Compared with traditional manual valves, electric valves are faster than ordinary valves, which not only reduces manpower, but also greatly improves work efficiency.

The difference between electric ball valves and electric butterfly valves:

First, you can know from the name that they are all driven by electric actuators. In terms of physical structure, the structural principles of ball valves and butterfly valves are different. The opening and closing parts of electric butterfly valves are a butterfly plate, while the ball valve uses a ball core as the opening and closing parts. Since the ball valve uses a ball core, the process can be very delicate, so the diameter can be smaller than that of the butterfly valve. This is the advantage of the ball valve, but the cost and process requirements for making the ball core of the ball valve large are high, so this is also the advantage of the ball valve. Compared with the ball valve, the butterfly valve can give full play to its advantages and make the opening and closing parts very large. However, a big advantage of the ball valve is that its sealing is better than that of the butterfly valve. The ball valve can withstand high pressure. However, due to the structural relationship of the ball valve and the solid ball core material, the material cost consumed is more than that of the butterfly valve, and the price is higher than that of the butterfly valve. Therefore, the choice of electric ball valve or electric butterfly valve must be based on the needs of one's own practical application, and the more reasonable and economical one is sought between the two.
Working principle of electric ball valve:
The electric ball valve has a 90-degree rotation action, the plug body is a sphere, and there is a circular through hole or channel passing through its axis. The ball valve is mainly used in the pipeline to cut off, distribute and change the flow direction of the medium. It only needs to rotate 90 degrees and a very small torque to close tightly. Ball valves are suitable for use as switches and cut-off valves, but recent developments have designed ball valves to have the function of throttling and regulating flow control, such as V-type ball valves. The main characteristics of electric ball valves are compact structure, reliable sealing, simple structure, easy maintenance, the sealing surface and the spherical surface are often in a closed state, not easily eroded by the medium, easy to operate and maintain, suitable for common working media such as water, oil, air, solvents, acids and natural gas, and also suitable for media with harsh working conditions, such as oxygen, hydrogen peroxide, methane and ethylene, etc., and widely used in various industries. The ball valve body can be integral or combined.

Working principle of electric butterfly valve:

The electric butterfly valve is composed of a valve composed of an electric actuator and a butterfly valve, so it has the advantages of butterfly valve cumbersome operation and simple structure, and is also widely used in chemical, pharmaceutical, water supply, power generation, and other industrial fields. And with the assistance of electric actuators, the development of butterfly valves has reached a new level. Working principle of electric butterfly valve: The valve stem is driven by an electric device to make the butterfly plate produce a 90° rotation movement to achieve the opening and closing of the valve.

Disadvantages of electric ball valve:

1. Since the main valve seat sealing ring material of the ball valve is polytetrafluoroethylene, it is inert to most chemical substances and has the comprehensive characteristics of low friction coefficient, stable performance, not easy to age, wide temperature application range and excellent sealing performance. However, the physical properties of polytetrafluoroethylene, including high shrinkage coefficient, sensitivity to cold flow and poor thermal conductivity, require that the design of the valve seat seal must be centered around these characteristics. Therefore, when the sealing material hardens, the reliability of the seal is destroyed. Moreover, the temperature resistance level of polytetrafluoroethylene is low and can only be used at less than 180°C. Exceeding this temperature, the sealing material will age. Considering long-term use, it is generally not used at 120°C.

2. Its adjustment performance is relatively worse than that of the plunger valve.
Disadvantages of electric butterfly valve:

1. The flow adjustment range is not large and the reliability of the adjusted flow is not high. For example, when the butterfly valve is opened to 30%, the flow rate can reach more than 95%.

2. Due to the limitations of the structure and sealing materials of the butterfly valve, it is not suitable for high-temperature and high-pressure pipeline systems. The general working temperature is below 300℃ and PN40 (6~40). Due to the structure, the life of the butterfly valve is also shorter than that of the ball valve.

3. The sealing performance is relatively poor compared to the ball valve, so it is used in working conditions where the sealing requirements are not very high.
